Every photographer you come across will have their own shooting style, and their own editing style. Understanding what you like, and what you want will help you have an exceptional experience. Creative Edits are something I include to add interest to your gallery.
What is a ‘Creative Edit’? Well, this may be different depending who you ask. To me creative edits can be double exposures, silhouettes, or just adding grain and filmy vibes to an otherwise ‘typical’ image. By doing this I can express the emotions of a moment or convey something about the love story.
To really understand what I mean, I think I need to tell you more about my style and give you some examples.
My Shooting Style
I have a mixture of an editorial and journalistic approach to how I capture wedding and elopement days. I think that both have a place in your gallery.
I tend to lean into the journalistic approach for most of the day. During getting ready, first looks, ceremony, etc. I will take a step back and try to interfere as little as possible. I think when photographers try to direct these moments it often makes the images feel odd or distant. By coming in with a journalistic mindset and simply documenting things as they happen I get to capture the realness.
I typically will not pose or direct at all during these natural elements of your day. There’s no ‘stand here and put your lipstick on…pause…look to me…” None of that. But rather, If you climb up onto the sink to lean into the mirror to do your lashes, your gallery will reflect that. I think the realness radiates beauty.
Here you can see one of my brides Katie just existing, no prompting or posing.
Now you will also get some editorial or poses images. These are the images you often see from photographers, they are often posed with a scene in mind. I take a relaxed approach to editorial too and only really offer light prompting rather than full body posing. The result tends to be more genuine and I think more relatable.

My editing style has evolved naturally overtime, and I have landed somewhere in the realm of cinematic realism. My images are bold and rich in color, but also true to life. I try to add richness while keeping hues relative to real life.
The majority of your gallery will feel like an elevated version of real life. But, sprinkled in through your gallery you will get a handful of filmy edits, some double exposures and fun edits. I think adding these is crucial to telling your story, and it adds so much interest to your gallery.
